EGO ST1300E vs ST1400E

The EGO ST1300E and ST1400E run the same 56V ARC Lithium platform and the same near-petrol cutting philosophy, but EGO sells them for two different kinds of buyer. The ST1300E is the bare-tool option: a narrower 33 cm cutting width, no battery or charger included, and a lower headline price that only tells half the story. The ST1400E is the complete kit: a wider 35 cm cutting width and a battery and charger already in the box, at a correspondingly higher price. What the price difference actually buys

It’s tempting to compare the two on price alone, but that comparison is misleading unless you already own EGO 56V batteries. The ST1300E’s lower price is for the trimmer head and shaft only — you still need to buy a 56V ARC Lithium battery and charger before it will cut anything. The ST1400E’s higher price includes both, so what looks like a big gap on paper narrows considerably once you account for the cost of powering the bare tool. For a first-time EGO buyer, the kit price is usually the more honest number to budget against.

Cutting width: 33 cm vs 35 cm

The other tangible difference is cutting width. The ST1400E’s 35 cm swath covers slightly more ground per pass than the ST1300E’s 33 cm, which adds up over a large lawn or long boundary edges — fewer passes, a bit less time per session. It’s not a dramatic gap, and neither width struggles with typical grass and light overgrowth, but if you’re trimming sizeable areas regularly, the wider cut on the ST1400E is a genuine, if modest, time saver.

Both are line-only

Neither trimmer accepts a metal blade. Both are built purely for grass, weeds and light overgrowth — brambles, saplings, and woody scrub are outside their remit regardless of which one you buy. Shared battery ecosystem

Whichever you choose, the battery is EGO’s 56V ARC Lithium system, shared across the brand’s wider range of mowers, blowers and chainsaws. That matters most if you’re weighing up whether to buy the bare ST1300E: if you already own an EGO 56V battery and charger from another tool, it slots straight in and the ST1300E becomes the cheaper, near-identical alternative to the ST1400E. Choose the ST1300E if…

If you’re already sitting on an EGO 56V battery and charger from a mower, blower or chainsaw, the ST1300E is the sensible pick — you get essentially the same cutting performance for less money, and the narrower 33 cm width is a minor trade-off. If you’re starting from scratch with no EGO batteries in the shed, the ST1400E is the more straightforward buy: the kit price is the real price, there’s nothing extra to source, and the 35 cm cutting width is a small bonus on top. Either way, both are line-only tools built for grass and light growth, not brush clearance, so plan accordingly if brambles or woody scrub are part of your garden.
