What it does
This is a bump-feed trimmer head designed around 3mm line, a step up in thickness from the 2.0-2.4mm cord most basic heads are loaded with. Rather than stopping to unwind fresh line by hand, you tap the spinning head lightly on the ground and a short length feeds out automatically from the twin-line spool. The wider line gives it a bit more bite against coarser grass, tougher weed stems, and the odd bramble that would shred thinner cord in a couple of passes, while the tap-feed mechanism keeps things simple enough for most home users to reload themselves.
It’s still very much a domestic-grade head rather than a professional one: the housing is moulded plastic, not the reinforced nylon or metal-backed construction found on pricier branded heads, so it’s best treated as an inexpensive way to get a bit more cutting capability rather than a long-life replacement part.
Fitting and choosing
Before ordering, check what thread and bore your trimmer’s drive shaft actually takes. Tap & go heads like this one are sold to fit a range of common threads, but sizes and directions vary between brands and even between models from the same maker, so match the fitting against your existing head or the trimmer’s manual rather than guessing. A left-hand thread on some machines is intentional, so the head tightens rather than loosens as it spins — fitting a head with the wrong thread direction can mean it works itself loose in use.
Running 3mm line also asks more of the motor than thinner cord does. It suits mid-power petrol trimmers and higher-output cordless models reasonably well, but on a lower-power machine the extra drag can bog the engine down, slow the head, or drain a battery faster than expected. If your trimmer already struggles with 2.4mm line, stepping up to 3mm is unlikely to help and may make things worse.
Limitations
This head takes line only, with no fitting for blades, so anything beyond grass, weeds, and light bramble is outside its scope.
